Samuel Shelley (1750 - 1808)Shelley was largely self-taught. He painted miniatures and water-colour figure subjects. He exhibited at the Society of Artists, 1773-1775 and at the Royal Academy, 1774-1804. He was an amiable character and helped other artists. The V&A library has the catalogue of the sale by Peter Coxe, 22.3.1809 of Shelley's effects; it shows that he possessed a considerable collection of "old masters".
Shelley taught Edward Nash and Alexander Robertson.
