Charles Shirreff (1750 - 1851)Charles was probably born in Edinburgh, the son of a wealthy man. He was deaf and dumb. He came to London, circa 1768 to practise as a miniaturist. Was introduced to Garrick. In 1770 he lodged with Thomas Burgess a portrait painter and art teacher. He had a theatrical clientele, including Mrs. Siddons Mrs. Hartley and John Kemble.
In 1796 he went to India where he worked in Madras until 1797, he returned to the UK in 1807
