A group portrait miniature of William Thomson Honeymoon (1797-1828) and his children, Mary and William

Artist/Maker SCOTTISH SCHOOL (19th Century )
Dimensions 5.40cm high
Description William, the father, stands between his daughter Mary Thomson Honyman (b. 1817) and his son William Thomson Honyman ( b 1819).

William the father in this portrait was the son of Sir William Honyman, Bt and Mary McQueen. He came from Smyllum, Lanark, Scotland and married his wife Catherine, in 1815. He died in Naples yet his wife died in Edinburgh, 1832. His daughter Mary McQueen Thomson Honyman married Michael Carmichael of Eastend.

It is not certain why Catherine, the children's mother is not present in this portrait, but as the father died in 1828 in Naples, it is possible that the miniature was commissioned by the father, before his travel to Naples, to give as a gift to his wife.
