Provenance: Nicholas Vansittart, 1st Baron Bexley (1766-1851) gifted to his great-niece Teresa Vansittart in 1832 By family descent In a letter from Nicholas Vansittart to his great niece dated 1836, the sitter was identified as Teresa's grandfather. Henry was the son of Henry Vansittart(1732-1769/70) Governor of Bengal and his wife Amelia Morse. The Governor died when the Frigate "Aurora" was lost off Cape Town in 1769 on its return from India.
