Charles Hayter, circa 1794 The artist and architect Joshua Kirby (1716-1794), wearing brown coat, white waistcoat and tied cravat Set in the original gold frame, the reverse with lock of hair on green tin foil backing Kirby was a close friend of Gainsborough whom he got to know when the two men collaborated on a painting around 1748. They became life-long friends and both of them were buried at Kew.
